It's a great book to peruse, particularly with the holidays just around the corner. A Martha Washington quote (may be the first I have ever seen ascribed to her!) is my favorite today: "The greatest part of our happiness depends on our dispositions, not our circumstances." Right now, despite the economic gloom and doom, we should be smiling. We have so much for which to be grateful. We have the opportunity every day when we go to work to make a difference in the lives of our students or our colleagues. We have, as Christa McAulliffe said, the chance to touch the future. Ours aren't easy jobs. We certainly are not as well compensated as some who do much less to make our communities better. Nevertheless, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to do the important work we do. Most importantly, we have each other. Being united, working together toward our common goal, we are a formidable force -- more than equal to the challenges that lie ahead. As I gather
with my family around our Thanksgiving table, I will be mindful of how
lucky I am to work for you, the talented, dedicated members of WEA.
