2011 WEA Awards Programs

'A Teacher to Remember' student essay contest
With nearly 900 entries in this year’s contest, it was another smashing success. Many, many wonderful essays were submitted. Read the winning essays below.

2011 Essay winners
Grades 3-5
5th-grader David Lange, Mt. View Elementary in Ferndale, honoring Jill Robertson, also at Mt. View. Read David’s essay.

Grades 6-8
7th-grader Zoe Chapman, Tumwater Middle School, honoring Bill Smith at Michael T. Simmons Elementary. Read Zoe’s essay.

Grades 9-12
11th-grader Sydney Kersten, Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane, honoring her calculus teacher Matt Green. Read Sydney’s essay.

ESL/ELL
5th-grader Cesar Zavalza, Skyline Elementary in Lake Stevens, honoring Holly Grytness, also at Skyline. Read Cesar’s essay.

Several students around the state received a Runner-Up certificate along with a $25 gift card to Amazon.com. No overall winner was awarded in the multimedia category.
