WEA Summer U for study, strength, friendship and fun

WEA launches Summer U Aug. 1-4, 2011, at Edmonds-Woodway High School in Edmonds. Summer U is comprised of four different colleges geared for WEA members to learn and share best practices and revitalize for the coming school year.WEA's SummerU 2011: Join Us this August!
Summer U is for you if you are interested in pursuing professional development geared toward becoming a better and stronger educator. It's for those of you who want to develop cutting edge skills needed in today's chaotic world, obtain college credit or clock hours, and network with educators who share a passion for public education across our state.

Space is limited in every class so register today. This year's Summer U offerings include:

* College of Advocacy and Strength: This is the school for WEA members who want to learn about bargaining, contract writing and other more traditional union issues as well as for those who want to hear about the latest in education reform as well as a number of other issues. Register for classes in beginning bargaining, advanced bargaining, education reform, Organizing for Power, grievances, legal issues and contract writing and interpretation here.

* College of Professional Practice: This college is aimed at members who are beginning their candidacy for either National Board Certification or the ProTeach® Portfolio. It is for NBCTs who are renewing their National Board certification. Check out WEA's National Board JumpStart, ProTeach® JumpStart, and other professional certification and certification renewal programs.

* PBODI: This is the school for local presidents and WEA Board of Directors. This school will stress leadership, organizing and other critical skills necessary in today's ever-changing environment. Click here for more information, if you are a local president interested in attending.

* College of School Improvement: This invitation-only school is geared for those WEA members who are working in schools that have received federal School Improvement Grants. Check with your school district for pre-approval for clock hours once you know what you want to take.

Summer U participants are responsible for lodging and tuition costs, which covers course materials, instructors and some meals. View listing of nearby hotels offering special rates for a limited time.
