Are you registered to vote? Are your students?
It’s kind of a made-up day, but it’s a good reminder for all of us to check to make sure we’re registered to vote (and register if we aren’t). Here are links to do that in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
Today is also a good day to make sure your students know how they can make their voices heard. The Future Voter Program, which started in 2019, allows 16- and 17-year-old citizens to sign up and be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18. (Also, 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by the General Election can vote in the August Primary).
The Washington Secretary of State’s office has resources for educators to encourage students to get signed up. This link includes information on the program, contact information for county elections offices, a voter registration form, and printable posters and bookmarks.
