Election victories strengthen pro-student, pro-union majority in Olympia
When educators stick together, vote, talk with our colleagues and communities, and encourage everyone to vote, it makes a huge difference. While vote counts are continuing, the results of most of our endorsed candidates’ races are clear. Educators had a fantastic night and our strength to win for our students and our schools will be amplified in 2023 with the number of new pro-labor, pro-public education champions we help elect.
An amazing majority of our WEA-PAC recommended candidates won their races. We’ll be adding one more pro-education, pro-union legislator in the State Senate and possibly one more pro-education, pro-union legislators in the House. This would include two WEA members (Rep. Sharon Shewmake and Rep. Matt Boehnke) in the State Senate, where we currently have no members.
In the race for U.S. Senate, NEA-endorsed candidate Marie Gluesenkamp Perez won and Rep. Kim Schreier and Sen. Patty Murray retained their seats.
