Adding protection with voluntary plans
WEA Select Voluntary Plans are offered by the group/district. Eligible participants may choose to purchase these plans, though it is important to note that there may be eligibility requirements, such as working a certain number of hours per week or month. You are responsible for paying 100% of the premium, which the school district would deduct from your paycheck.
Voluntary disability plan – American Fidelity (AFA)
These voluntary disability plans are designed to replace a portion of your income if you are unable to work due to a covered disability. The short-term disability plan is designed to cover a portion of your income during your Group LTD plan’s waiting period. The voluntary long-term disability plan works well for employees who don’t have access to a group plan.
These plans have several options, allowing you to select one that works best for your circumstances. This coverage is made available at the bargaining unit or school district level. The WEA Select Voluntary Disability Plan is underwritten by American Fidelity Assurance.
Voluntary life plan – Unum
The WEA Select Voluntary Life Insurance Plan allows you to choose life insurance coverage in increments of $5,000 up to $150,000. Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefits are included at no additional charge. Coverage may be purchased regardless of your health status up to $25,000 or $50,000, depending on group size, when you are initially eligible or at open enrollment. Otherwise, you will have to complete a health questionnaire and obtain approval by Unum. Coverage is made available at the bargaining unit or school district level.
You can also purchase life only coverage for your spouse and dependent children. All amounts for your spouse and/or dependents are subject to health status and approval by Unum.
Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) – AFA
All eligible employees in a participating group automatically receive free basic coverage up to $1,000 when their school district offers this program to employees through payroll deduction. When available, you have the option to purchase additional coverage up to $250,000 for yourself or your entire family. The WEA Select Voluntary AD&D Plan is underwritten by AFA.
