WEA's 2020 Legislative Priorities Include Building Stronger Relationships Between Students, Families, and Educators
Strong personal relationships with caring, professional adults are crucial to student success.
WEA supports legislation to reduce class sizes, hire more support staff, fully fund special education, and increase the academic freedom to create opportunities during the school day for educators to build relationships with students, their families, and the communities they serve.
Funding for additional school staff and support
WEA urges the Legislature to fund the additional educators and school staff mandated by voter-approved Initiative 1351, including additional professionals who can help meet students' mental, social, emotional and behavioral health needs.
Increase special education funding
While the state has increased funding for special education students, it is still falling far short of providing the support students need and deserve. The Legislature must increase funding and support for all special education students, including those who are incarcerated.
