Negotiating for a fair contract
On Nov. 8, members of Tumwater Association of Paraeducators and Tumwater Office Professionals Association rallied before the Tumwater School District Board Meeting. Some 130 office professionals and paraeducators continue to negotiate with the district for a fair contract.
Tumwater School District received $1.4 million in McCleary money which should be set aside for support staff salaries -- but these administrators are not willing to provide these staff a living wage.
Tumwater teachers were forced to strike to get the fair contract they deserved. Support staff in Tumwater say it is their turn to get a fair contract.
“We deserve professional and competitive pay,” says Tumwater Association of Paraeducators Co-President Sherrie DeGraw. “The Tumwater School Board and Supt. John Bash have the money to settle our contract.”
