Statement from WEA President Kim Mead regarding the passage of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act
"The Every Student Succeeds Act is a true victory for the students of Washington who will benefit from more time spent learning and less time focused on high-stakes tests.
"As a union leader, a teacher and a grandmother, I am proud of the work Washington Education Association members have done with Sen. Murray to ensure the new law is focused on providing our students with the support and help they need to be successful. We thank the senator for listening to and respecting the voice of Washington’s professional educators and putting our children first in the debate over this law.
"With the passage of this act, we’re eager to leave the old and flawed federal law behind. This is a great opportunity for parents, educators and school supporters to work together and provide the top-quality public education every child deserves."
