Longview EA member Erik Edmundson rocked his red for public ed.

Hundreds of Longview Education Association teachers and other educators participated in districtwide walk-ins Wednesday, April 26, to raise community awareness about school successes and challenges facing students and staff. The walk-in comes as Washington legislators returned to a special session in Olympia to determine how to fulfill their paramount duty to fund public education.

At most walk-ins, a teacher shared a story about a success and a challenge. State Sen. Dean Takko attended the walk-in and mini-rally at Cascade Middle School, where he heard stories from students and teachers.

Longview Schools Superintendent Dan Zorn was also at Cascade, as students talked about why they like being in school and as teachers, both veteran and new, spoke about their hopes for their students.

The event, organized by LEA leaders and members, gave members the opportunity to stand up to “teacher bashing” while also calling upon legislators to follow through on their court-ordered mandate to fund public education.
