Equity-based school practices and the cultural competency, diversity, equity and inclusion (CCDEI) standards
In April 2021, the state Legislature passed a bill to ensure every educator in Washington is prepared, trained, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to create stronger, more supportive student-centered learning environments.
The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) adopted the cultural competency, diversity, equity and inclusion (CCDEI) standards. These standards apply to all educator roles and will be used in the preparation of educator candidates and in professional learning opportunities throughout an educator's career. Teachers and administrators must meet an equity-based school practices certificate renewal requirement.
