After a four day strike, paraeducators from Sumner-Bonney Lake approved a new contract which includes an average 12.5 percent pay increase the first year. The district originally offered two percent.
The paraeducators were supported by the teachers, who unanimously voted to walk out alongside the paraeducators. Members from other unions also showed up in support of the paraeducators, whose pay lags behind others in nearby districts. Under the new contract, pay will increase by about two dollars an hour.
"We are ecstatic," said paraeducator Shontay Krystokiak.
Congratulations to the Sumner-Bonney Lake paraeducators, demonstrating once again that when we are united and strong, we can achieve great things.
