Educators are invited to join state Rep. Monica Stonier and dozens of other union members at the upcoming “Proud to Be Union Summit" in Vancouver.

Stonier, a member of WEA and the Evergreen Education Association, is a keynote speaker at the Oct. 19 event. She’ll be joined by April Sims, secretary treasurer of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

WEA members are invited to join workers from across the Southwest Washington for this day-long event open to all union members. Registration is $15, and the event is at Clark College in Vancouver. Register here. Here is the event flier

“We're rolling up our sleeves and digging into the planning of this great event!” says Kari Van Nostran, president of the Vancouver Education Association. “Come hear about successful organizing campaigns in our region and attend workshops on possible topics such as: New member outreach, coalition building, communications, turning an issue into a campaign, race and labor, telling our stories, labor history, and commonsense economics!”

Last year, WEA members in six Clark County school districts successfully went on strike and won significant pay raises. Also part of WEA, faculty members at Clark College continue their fight for fair pay, too.

A similar union summit is planned Nov 16 in the Tri-Cities. Register here.

Both events are sponsored in part by Washington Works Together, the statewide coalition of public-sector unions that includes WEA.
