WEA members have been at the forefront of advocating for reduced class sizes and lower caseloads for a variety of educators, including ESPs and ESAs. As educators, we know that individualized attention allows all students better opportunities for success, and can make an enormous difference for students with the greatest needs.

In response to legislative direction, OSPI convened a work group to recommend staff-to-student ratios for classrooms and non-instructional educators as well. WEA has several members and a staff person who participated on this group.

Now OSPI has issued a survey that introduces the workgroup’s recommendations, and seeks feedback. Your participation will help make sure that educator voice continues to be a part of efforts to improve staffing ratios so that our students have the resources they need to learn and succeed in school.

The survey will be open through November 12. OSPI will submit its final report to the legislature December 1.
