Urge Gov. Jay Inslee to fund school safety in his upcoming budget.

The November general election results will be finalized this week, and thanks in part to the work of WEA-PAC and WEA members, there will be an even stronger pro-student, pro-union majority in the Legislature.

In the meantime, Gov. Jay Inslee is expected to release his two-year state budget proposal in the next couple of weeks. Click here to email Inslee and urge him to prioritize healthy students and safe schools in his budget plan.

School safety is a priority for WEA members -- our students can’t learn unless they have safe schools.

  • WEA members believe students, educators and community members have a fundamental right to be safe at school.
  • All students deserve the individual help, support and resources they need to be successful in the classroom and in the community – including the increasing number of students who have serious emotional, economic and behavioral challenges.
  • We urge the Washington Legislature and Gov. Inslee to fund additional counselors, psychologists, nurses, therapists, social workers and other mental health services for all students in every public school.

While funding additional school staff is not our only priority for Inslee’s budget, it’s likely his budget will address many of WEA’s other priorities, including funding school employee health care (SEBB) and providing additional levy capacity.

Here are WEA’s 2019 Legislative Priorities in both Spanish and English.
