2019_0909_WA_TOY_2Amy Campbell, a special education teacher at Helen Baller Elementary School in Camas, was named the 2020 Washington State Teacher of the Year at a ceremony at the Museum of Popular Culture (MoPOP) in Seattle on Monday.

Ms. Campbell has worked in Camas for 12 years, where she supports her students in achieving academic success by fostering inclusion and using strategies geared toward each of her students' strengths. She works to engage her students in the whole school community.

Julie, a parent of one of Campbell's students noted, "My son is beloved by both staff and students at his school. I attribute this, in large part, to the willingness of Amy to get him out into the 'community' and help him shine. For example, he needs frequent breaks and she makes those productive learning opportunities by having him deliver the school mail. He feels successful. He loves school."

2019_0909_WA_TOY_Larry_JanieSuperintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal said Campbell's "collaborative nature, working tirelessly to build a school community that welcomes all learners, is an immense benefit to her students."

Congratulations, Amy!

The Washington State Teacher of the Year is selected from a pool of nine regional teachers of the year. We'd also like to congratulate and thank them for the great work they do with and for our students every day.
