WEA Educators of Color Conference
The WEA Educators of Color Conference was a success with more than 200 WEA members in attendance. It provided a place to grow, to celebrate successes and to build community. This conference was initiated by members who put forth a New Business Item at the WEA Representative Assembly, which was supported by other assembly delegates.
Michael Cook, sponsor of the New Business Item at the WEA Representative Assembly and Edmonds EA member says, “I was proud to be there. A dream can move on to a conference – causing a movement that does amazing things.”
Kimberly Han, Student WEA member says, “It was amazing being among a group of educators who were so open, vulnerable and respectful. I immediately felt like I was among family. Educators of color need safe spaces like this to intersect and build community.”
Jodie Carlsen, Wahluke EA member says about the conference, “We have a lot of work left to do, but I’m glad we have begun.”
