The 2016 legislative session is underway.
These 60 day short sessions are designed for budgetary and operational tweaks. Given the ongoing gridlock in Olympia, legislators by all appearances are setting low bars for the session. Most of what we will see will be positioning for the fall elections.
That doesn't mean we sit back and do nothing. WEA will continue to push a student-centered agenda that advocates for:
- Reliable and predictable school funding for all our 1.1 million public school students
- Professional competitive pay to attract and keep qualified educators on the job.
- A more rational approach to standardized testing, including passing a student testing bill of rights.
- Smaller class sizes for all grades, including 4 – 12.
- Measures that protect and strengthen the profession.
