Every election cycle, WEA members endorse candidates whom we feel will best represent the needs of our students and our professions.  Here are the endorsements for the current primary.  These are candidates who have filled out a WEA questionnaire, been interviewed and recommended by members because they stand with educators and our students.

Among the stand-out candidates in this primary is Ingrid Anderson, RN, who is running for state senate in the 5th legislative district (the Issaquah/Snoqualmie area).  As a nurse, Ingrid understands what it means to care for our community.  She’s also dedicated to quality public schools.  You can read more about her here.

We’re also excited about the number of talented Black candidates running for office.  If we are successful in electing these candidates, we’ll have a more inclusive group of lawmakers who will better represent the people of our state.  We feature some of these important candidates, Joy Stanford, Kristin Harris-Talley, April Berg, Jamilah Taylor, T’wina Nobles, and Tanisha Harris, here.

As part of our statewide Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, we have a list of labor-endorsed candidates as well. These have been interviewed and vetted by union members across the state.

All up and down the ballot, voters are making decisions about what the future of our state and our public education system will look like. These are the candidates who, if elected, will decide how to reshape our state budget to reflect the financial difficulties of a pandemic.  Get your sample ballot to see which candidates stand with educators and our students. Make your voice heard now – vote by August 4.
